Frequently Asked Questions

  • I.M.P. is a nonprofit organization with the mission to provide transgender men, or men of trans experience, with the community and programmatic support they need to live healthier, connected, and more fulfilling lives.

We hold multiple in-person events annually, as well as virtual programming.

  • I.M.P. is an organization dedicated to supporting men who have a transgender experience. We recognize the specific need for designated affinity spaces. We see the dearth of support and community for trans men and aim to serve this population.

Identity is specific and subjective and we do not police or decide who is male or man enough. If you are a trans man, we welcome you, regardless of where you are in your transition.

There are all types of trans men and all kinds of ways of relating to your maleness, this is very different from identifying as non-binary, transmasculine, or fluid. If you do not identify as male or a man, this will not be the space you are looking for and we would hate for you to be uncomfortable.

There are a few other events and programs that exist for trans-masc/non-binary folks. We have created a resource page for those of you who fall under that umbrella and are looking for communities and programming similar to ours.

Thank you for understanding the need and value of taking care of this population of men.

  • We serve trans men by offering in-person and virtual community gatherings. We host multiple Camp Lost Boys events annually and offer virtual programming.

  • If you would like to join us at a C.L.B. event, please visit the site to sign up for our upcoming trips.

If you would like to be a part of our virtual programming offerings as they launch, please sign up for our mailing list to be the first to receive updates.

  • We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to support trans men. Our donors generously fund that specific mission and our tax-exempt status depends on our adherence to our mission. If you are not a man of trans experience, we appreciate you respecting our organization, and the community spaces we create, by not attending.

Everyone at our gatherings is received and addressed as male, using he/him pronouns. For starters, imagine how validating that is for men who don’t have the privilege of passing in their everyday lives. What a relief.

Though there are all types of men and all kinds of ways of relating to your maleness, this is very different from identifying as non-binary, trans masc or gender fluid.

If you do not identify as male or a man, this will not be the experience you are looking for and we would hate for you to be uncomfortable.

Thank you for understanding the specific need for healing that happens in designated affinity spaces.

  • Absolutely not! Our aim is to provide a space that is positive and inspires growth and examination. In fact, this is an antidote to toxic masculinity.

Just because a space is dedicated to serving men does not make it toxic, hyper-masculine, or similar. We work hard to break that stereotype. It is important to know that a space like this, for men of trans experience, can be vital to one feeling comfortable in owning their own masculinity and male identity and, in parallel, build a stronger contingency of men invested in healthy masculinity and even intersectional feminism.

This space provides men with much-needed validation and community. Guys of all sorts of gender expression attend our events. There is an extreme diversity of attendance and representation along the spectrum of what it looks like to be a man.

Trans men rarely have the opportunity to be in a setting where they can take up all the space and unpack their own relationship to being a man.

This is the exact space where work can be done to change masculinity. We hope the guys who attend our gatherings go back to their communities and transmit a new perspective about maleness and masculinity and that there is healing for the collective.

We are thoughtfully intersectional in our event curation. This environment allows guys to explore healthy masculinity, build positive manhood, and enhance self-awareness, self-esteem, and self-respect.

Many of the organizers and facilitators align with intersectional feminism and are longtime community builders.

  • We have many ideas, but we are a very small start-up nonprofit and we are dedicated to developing impactful and sustainable programming. We know from experience how disappointing it is when programming for our community disappears due to lack of resources. So while there are many opportunities to explore, our primary commitment at the moment is building a sustainable organization offering reliable support.

Our first priority is ensuring that our flagship program, Camp Lost Boys, already loved by so many, remains an enduring part of our community. We are committed to hosting three C.L.B. events every year in locations across the country and doing all we can to ensure equitable access to C.L.B. for trans men from all backgrounds.

Our second focus is the ongoing development of virtual programming, with the intent that men from all over the world can develop meaningful connection and support around the trans experience.

Moving forward, we’ll explore future offerings based on community needs and our organization’s capacity. Sign up for our mailing list to stay updated. We are dedicated to this community and look forward to reliably providing unique, impactful experiences for many years to come.
